This book makes clear a surprising, but important point: natural-born talent is probably at best grossly overstated, and probably non-existent. Even how the items are framed in an obsessive-compulsive manner reflect 'American nerd-ness'.Anders Ericsson is the leading academic in the field of talent development. It shows several items that are associated with nerds: an inhaler, thick glasses, retainers and a pocket protector. Jason J Heuer designed Benjamin Nujent's book, "American Nerd". I do enjoy listening to this, don't get me wrong, but performance wise, I think it kinda sucks.American Nerd by Benjamin Nujent. Also, the sound effects in the background kinda annoy me. For example, Jim Dale reading the Harry Potter audiobooks is absolutely amazing! The reader for Stephen King's IT (can't remember his name) is also awesome. I'd rather it sound like he's actually telling a story and not just reading. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and I consider a good reader to be someone you can't tell they're reading off a page and I don't get that with him. We are an amazing group of people.Īs for J's reading of the book, I'm definitely enjoying it, but he kinda sucks at reading an audiobook and I'd never want to hear him read something that wasn't about his life. Sure, we have a lot of doped out, lazy motherfuckers, but they'd never hurt a fly that didn't deserve it and they'd never judge anyone negatively for not living the same way they do. Other people outside our ways can't see it, but we truly have an amazing way of life. We take a lot of shit for what we are, but I've never met a Juggalo I didn't like. Man, your story is fuckin awesome! I'm glad you decided to get back into our lifestyle. Plan on going to my first gathering next year and I can't fucking wait! That book literally made me a Juggalo again and has created some super positive changes in my life and I'm still fallin hard. at a rapid rate and its fucking amazing! Honestly it's all I listen to now. Now after the book I'm falling back in love with ICP and the Dark Carnival/Twiztid ect. It was so informative about everything ICP, I had heard some stuff about the 6th and track 17, but I didn't know SHIT. I talked to my Juggalo homie about it constantly (he had read it several times in the past). I love the story of the butterfly most of all. I would wake up in the middle of the night and listen in my living room. Anyway, I didn't hate ICP or anything so I decided to listen to it, really as an after thought not really expecting much, but hey maybe it could be good right? Dude. That book changed EVERYTHING. Like you said, it's crazy they haven't tightened up on that shit! Those books can be expensive especially for anything new. Well their subscription is soooo old that they still get TWO free credits per month, which is unbelievable if you ask me. One of my best friends, a life long Juggalo, was going through my parents audio book library recently and asked if he could get the book on account of those new chapters. Getting behind all of the evil stuff they would be saying just didn't seem cool anymore and my brother had moved on to something else. I loved the music, but eventually stopped listening and caring right before Bizzar Bizaar (I know, what a mistake). Little story too: when I was younger my older brother introduced me to ICP right around the the time Riddle Box came out. In my opinion J's narration is one of the best audio book performances I've heard and I've listened to over a hundred of those fuckers. I have the audiobook and its fucking increadible.
